By means of plastic 'program' cards the interface could be set up to emulate different joystick interfaces. Supplied cards were for Sinclair Interface 2 port 1 and port 2, AGF and Cursor. Kempston emulation was probably built-in, as this is not a keyboard keys emulating joystick interface [to be verified]. Some cards could be programmed by the customer.
Programming was achieved by little silicon cones which were tucked into holes in the plastic cards and which pressed on foil key contacts, similar to the ZX81 keyboard, or even more to the ZX80 or the Jupiter Ace keyboard. For this the card had to be flipped and plugged in place to generate some pressure on the foil. I had some trouble to figure out how to lift it again...
