This is a ZX Spectrum+ clone manufactured by Investronica, with 64 kB of RAM (thereof 16 kB probably not accessible, two sources, three stories about it.) and a Kempston joystick port at the rear. It is incompatible with some games (Bomb Jack, Breakthrough or Commando) either because of the localised ROM or because of the different timing of the RAM.
Optically it can be distinguished from the original ZX Spectrum+ by the black empossed 'inves' Logo in the top left corner. Below it 'Spectrum+' is written in red, not 'ZX Spectrum+'.
Production started after the takeover of Sinclair by Amstrad. For copyright issues with Amstrad most error messages are in Spanish.
The machine is still not too hard to find on Ebay but the problem is usually that most people who sell it say that it’s a Sinclair Spectrum+.
The inves Spectrum+ is a redesigned clone with own PCB layout and an own ULA chip. BASIC error messages are localised, which makes the ROM look different to games. The machine's RAM is stored in two 4464 RAM chips. The bus arbitration between CPU and ULA is completely different from that of the Sinclair machines. It uses a crystal clock frequency 5 times as high as the CPU clock (Sinclair: 4 times) and thus manages to serve the ULA and the CPU interleaved with no delay. The entire RAM and of course the ROM have no wait cycles for bus contendion.
