U-BEND

HOW TO PLAY

Place down tiles to help the water flow as far as it can from its starting point.

To complete a level, the water must flow through (at least) a given number of tiles, indicated by D:n on the HUD.
The water will not flow until an initial delay has elapsed, indicated by T: on the HUD.
Some levels have an end point, which the water much reach as well as having flowed through the required number of tiles.
Tiles which have already been placed can be replaced, but only after suffering a time & score penalty.

After every fourth level a bonus level occurs, where you can only drop tiles from a moving cursor. Tiles cannot be replaced, and there is no minimum distance the water must achieve.

After every bonus level a code will be shown - which can be entered on the menu to start directly from that level.

SCORING

50 - Bonus for water flowing through a pipe before the required distance is reached.
100 - Bonus for water flowing through a pipe after the required distance is reached.
500 - Bonus for water flowing through a pipe during the bonus level.
50 - Penalty for replacing an existing tile during the game.
1000 - Bonus for water reaching the end tile of the level (if the level has one)
100 - Penalty for every tile placed down, but unused, when the level is completed.
2000 - Bonus for completing a level, minus 100 for every placed but unused tile.
5000 - Bonus for every cross tile in which water flows in both directions, when the level is completed.

HINTS

Use the code - 0000 - for the first level.
The next four pipes are shown on the left, so try to think ahead and use them wisely.
Try not to replace existing tiles - as there's both a time & score penalty.
Have water flow both ways through cross pipes for extra bonus.
Some levels have preset 'reservoir' tiles on them, which take the water longer to flow through, and so give you more time.

CONTROLS

Z - Move left.
X - Move right.
K - Move up.
M - Move down.
L - Place/replace a tile.

The game will be in colour if the Chroma 81 interface is detected, and set to show colour.
